Bhubaneswar: Two women trying to board a train in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Sunday, died after they lost balance and slipped on the track.
The two deceased have been identified as Jhunu Gouda (55) and Pratima Gouda (40).
As per information, the two were engaged as Mid-Day Meal (MDM) workers in a school in Jagannathpur village under Ganjam district’s Chikiti block.
The incident occurred when they were boarding a train at Surla Road station to go to Bhubaneswar. One of them slipped from the moving train while trying to board during its short halt at the station. The other woman also slipped from the moving train while trying to rescue her. Both of them died after being run over by the moving train.
Sources said the two were supposed to attend a meeting of MDM workers in Bhubaneswar and were trying to board a train, when the mishap occurred.
Their bodies were sent for postmortem by Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel. The Government Railway Police (GRP) have reportedly initiated a probe into the incident. Their untimely death has triggered a pall of gloom in Chikiti block, sources added.
