Kendrapada: The pluck and courage of two fisherwomen saved a youth from a crocodile attack in Badatubi village of Mahalkapada near here Wednesday morning.
The survivor, identified as Kinaram Mandal of the village had gone to a nearby pond for his morning ablutions when a crocodile attacked him and tried to drag him into the water.
However, the two women who were fishing nearby heard his shouts for help and rushed to his rescue. They hurled stones at the reptile forcing it to abandon its prey and retreat into the pond.
The victim who sustained injuries on his arm was taken to the Ramnagar hospital.
While the courage displayed by the women came in for praise, locals complained that crocodile attacks have become a regular event of late.
