2 Women Killed, 2 Critical As Heap Of Soil Collapses In Odisha’s Koraput

Koraput: Two women were killed and two others sustained critical injuries when a heap of soil caved in near a river in Nandapur area of Odisha’s Koraput district on Tuesday.

The incident took place when the victims went to Marda riverbed near Nandpur in the afternoon to collect soil for household use. A portion of earth suddenly caved in and collapsed on them, killing two persons on the spot, sources said.

The injured were rescued in critical condition and rushed to Nandpur hospital for treatment. They were later shifted to Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput as their condition deteriorated.

The deceased were identified as Daimati Kantri and Soshi Hantal, residents of Ghagadapandi village under Nandpur police station limits in the district.

On being informed, a team of police personnel rushed to the spot and launched an investigation into the incident. Further details are awaited.
