Ahmedabad: Two workers died and seven others are fighting for their lives in hospital after inhaling toxic fumes at a textile factory here on Sunday, PTI reported.
The mishap at Devi Synthetics, in the city’s Narol industrial area, occurred when spent acid was being transferred into a tank at the factory, informed Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ravi Mohan Saini.
“Police received information around 10.30 am that nine persons were affected due to a toxic gas leak in a factory in Narol and were taken to LG Hospital, where two died,” he said.
Of the seven workers undergoing treatment, four are on ventilators and in extremely critical condition.
There was panic in the area as news of the gas leak spread and the affected workers were shifted to the hospital.
Police arrived at the spot, and were followed by officials from Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Industrial Safety and Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB).
A probe has begun to identify the cause of the accident.
According to an official, Industrial Safety board and FSL are trying to ascertain if the factory followed due procedures.
