Cuttack: Two workers died after being trapped inside a sewerage tank at CDA Sector-10 in Cuttack city on Thursday.
According to sources, the incident took place around 11.30 am when a worker fell into a 10 to 15 feet long pit while cleaning it. Another worker then entered into that pit to rescue him. When the two didn’t return, a third worker went in. They were all then trapped inside the sewerage.
On being informed, a fire brigade reached the spot and rescued them. They were admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition.
However, two among them were later declared dead. The deceased, identified as P Shankar of Patapur and Bishnu Nayak of Baramba, are suspected to have died of suspected asphyxiation.
Meanwhile, a joint inquiry by Tehsildar Cuttack and Deputy commissioner Enforcement Cuttack Municipal Corporation has been ordered into the incident.
