2 Workers Killed, Another Critical In Mishap At NALCO Plant Expansion Site In Odisha’s Damanjodi

Damanjodi: At least two contractual labourers were killed and another critically injured after a heavy rods fell on them at a construction site of the National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) plant at Damanjodi in Odisha’s Koraput district on Tuesday.

As per preliminary information, the mishap took place when the workers were engaged at the site as part of the ongoing expansion work of the alumina refinery plant of the central public sector enterprise.

All the three workers were reportedly from Jharkhand. While one of the deceased was identified as Sama Rajbanshi (41), the identities of the other deceased and injured victim are yet to be ascertained.

They were working at the expansion site when heavy iron rods fell on them. The three were trapped under the rods. While two of them died, another sustained critical injury.

The three were rescued and immediately taken to the Nalco hospital where doctors declared two of them dead on arrival. The injured worker is undergoing treatment and his condition was stated to be critical.

Senior NALCO officials were not immediately available to comment on the mishap.

Sources said a police team and officials of CISF reached the spot and initiated an investigation.
