Bhubaneswar: The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Bhubaneswar on Friday sentenced former AGM, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP, SAIL), K Balagangadhar to 2 years rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs 15,000 in a fraud and cheating case.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered the instant case against accused, including then AGM and others. It was alleged that the accused persons entered into a criminal conspiracy with private firms and cheated RSP to the tune of Rs 24,41,010 through fake and forged documents by abusing their official position in issuing work order for Hot Strip Mill (HSM) RSP for executing overhauling work, colouring, painting, and dusting.
The agency filed the chargesheet on November 29, 2011.
In course of the trial, 6 accused persons died and trial against them was abated. The trial court found the accused guilty and sentenced him accordingly. While another accused, proprietor of a private firm, was acquitted, a CBI release said.
