Dhenkanal: Around 20 artistes of an opera group were seriously injured as the bus carrying them plunged into a gorge in the district on Thursday morning.
The mishap took place while the bus was going from Kankadahada to Palasa Bahal in Deogarh district to perform jatra. As the vehicle was crossing Jarada ghat under Parjang police station, the driver lost control and the bus fell into the gorge. Around 40 artistes of the opera group were travelling in the bus.
Following the incident, local people rescued the injured passengers from the bus and admitted them in Kamakshyanagar Sub-Divisional Hospital. The condition of 4 passengers was stated to be critical.
The passengers alleged that the accident took place as the driver of the ill-fated bus was in inebriated condition and hence lost control.
