Paradip: A Bangladeshi fishing boat, reported to have got stuck in the waves off the Paradip coast, was brought to safety on Sunday noon. At least 20 fishermen on board the boat have also been rescued.
According to sources, the boat was first located by locals in midsea, after which the rescue operation was launched. It is reported that the fishermen were out in the sea for the last 19 days and entered the Indian waters after losing their way following a storm in the region. They had reportedly left Bangladesh on December 7.
While the boat has been anchored, the Marine police here along with the Indian Coast Guard are interrogating the fishermen to ascertain if they are really fishermen and how they actually got stuck in the sea. Their voter ID cards are also being verified, the sources added.
