Balasore: At least 20 DJ vehicles arranged for use during immersion of Ganesh idols were seized in Odisha’s Balasore district on Sunday for violating noise regulations.
Officials said that the district administration cracked down on the violators and took the action after the vehicles were found playing extremely loud music during the immersion procession on Friday.
It was alleged that the norms laid down by the district administration were flouted during the immersion procession as part of the Ganesh Puja festival.
Acting on complaints, the police conducted raids during procession of DJ vehicles. The deafening sounds reportedly affected elderly people, children, and patients.
Despite prior warnings from the administration and Peace Committee to keep the noise levels down, the DJs were found to be playing music at high decibels. The Simulia police and other areas of Balasore town also seized several DJ vehicles.
The move aims to prevent disturbance to residents, particularly those with health conditions, and ensure a peaceful celebration of the festival.
