Balasore: Around 20 girl students of a government school fell ill during a practice session for an upcoming sporting event at Soro in Odisha’s Balasore district on Saturday.
According to sources, the incident took place at Badakhuri UGUPs Middle English School located in Soro municipality area.
The students were taking part in a rehearsal for the sports competition and playing musical chair when several of them complained of giddiness and nausea. Some of them reportedly fell on the ground.
Teachers of the school, assisted by parents and locals, rushed the students to Soro hospital. Some of the students were later shifted to the district headquarters hospital as their condition deteriorated. Their condition was now stated to be stable.
The cause of illness is yet to be ascertained and efforts are underway to find the reason.
School authorities as well as students stated that the girls had not eaten anything while at school. They dismissed reports that the students were taken ill due to contaminated or stale food.
Hospital sources reportedly stated that the illness might have occurred due to sudden rise in day temperature and exposure of the students to the sun for a long time.
