Sonepur: At least 20 people were injured after being attacked by bees during election campaign by Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leaders in Binika area of Odisha’s Sonepur district on Monday.
As per preliminary information, the incident took place at Kaintara village under Binika block in the district when BJD leaders were campaigning in the area. The village reportedly comes under Balangir Lok Sabha constituency.
BJD’s Balangir ok Sabha candidate Surendra Singh Bhoi and Birmaharajpur Assembly nominee Padmanava Behera were campaigning in the area when the incident took place. They were accompanied by BJD’s Binika Block president Dwarikanath Sahu and other local leaders.
Electioneering was in full steam at Kaintara to the tune of DJ music, when the participants were attacked by a swarm of bees.
Around 20 people, including Sahu and some senior leaders, were injured in the bee attack. All the injured have been rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Binika for treatment.
