Bhubaneswar: As heatwave conditions prevailed in many parts of Odisha amid slow advancement of southwest monsoon, at least 20 places in the state registered temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more on Monday.
According to the evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meterorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, Nuapada was the hottest place in the state with a maximum (day) temperature of 44 degree Celsius on the day.
Nuapada was followed by Boudh with 42.8 degree Celsius, Paralakhemundi 42.4, Balangir 42.2, Baripada 42, Nayagarh 41.7 and Jharsuguda and Talcher 41.6 degree Celsius.
The maximum temperature in state capital Bhubaneswar stood at 39.2 degree Celsius, while Cuttack recorded 39.8 degree Celsius.
The weather agency has sounded yellow warning of heatwave in the state till June 14 amid slow advancement of southwest monsoon after its onset over Odisha.
There will be a gradual rise in the day temperature by 2-3 degree Celsius at many places in the state during the next 5 days with no large change thereafter.
Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre director Manorama Mohanty told the media that conditions for advancement of monsoon are not favourable in next five days.
