Cuttack: As many as 20 platoons of police force will be deployed to ensure incident-free byelection to Dhamnagar Assembly constituency in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on November 3.
This was revealed at a review meeting on poll preparedness by DGP Sunil Kumar Bansal through video-conference on Tuesday. Director Intelligence, Additional DG of Police (Law & Order), IGP (Headquarters), IGP (Personnel), IGP (Eastern Range), DIGP (Intelligence) and Bhadrak district SP attended the meeting.
The DGP emphasised on the free, fair, transparent, impartial and incident-free by-election. He stressed on strict enforcement of model code of conduct and adherence to the Election Commission guidelines for police arrangements and security arrangements, including visits of VIPs and VVIPs.
Bansal further emphasised on intensifying prophylactic measures including bounding down of persons, seizure of illegal arms, seizure of illicit liquor and execution of NBWs.
RK Sharma, ADGP, Law and Order, who reviewed the overall deployment plan, emphasised on enhancing the work of mobile squads and flying squads and thorough checking by police in the constituency.
Sanjeeb Panda, Director, Intelligence shared the intelligence connected with the byelection and urged the IGP and SP to closely monitor the law and order situation.
Besides 20 platoons of State OSAP/APR, 4 coys of CAPE, 46 mobile patrolling parties, 3 flying squads, 3 SST along with district police officers will be deployed for smooth conduct of byelections. Adequate security arrangements have also been made in strong room with CCTV coverage to ensure round-the-clock safety of EVMs.
