20 School Students Fall Ill After Taking Deworming Tablets In Odisha’s Cuttack

Cuttack: At least 20 children were hospitalised after reportedly taking deworming medicine in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Saturday.

According to sources, students of Asureswar High School at Nischintakoili in the district were given deworming tablets in the morning. After some time, some of them complained of head reeling and vomiting.

The school staff including teachers admitted the children, who fell ill, to the community health centre (CHC) in Nischintakoili.

Admitting about illness of the students, Manas Chandra Pradhan, an assistant teacher of the school, told the media persons that they were suspecting it to be a case of side effects of the medicine.

“Around 20 of the school students, who were given deworming tablets earlier in the day, showed side effects. They had head reeling and vomiting tendencies,” he said.

However, the condition of the students undergoing treatment in the CHC was improving, sources in the hospital said.

It may be noted that the tablets were distributed by the Health and Family Welfare department as part of the state government’s health drive among the children.

The medicines were given to the children on the occasion of National Deworming Day which is observed on February 10 every year.
