2016 Double Murder: Driver Of Ex-Odisha MLA Anup Sai Arrested

Raigarh: Two days after expelled BJD leader and former Brajarajnagar MLA Anup Sai confessed to a double murder, the Raigarh police on Sunday arrested Bardhan Toppo, his driver and alleged accomplice.

The former MLA was earlier arrested for the brutal murder of Kalpana Das (32) and her 14-year-old daughter in a forest at Hamirpur in Chhattisgarh in 2016.

Briefing mediapersons, additional SP, Raigarh, Abhishek Verma said that the driver has been arrested under Section 302 and 210 of the IPC after a marathon interrogation.

Toppo was allegedly taken for a crime scene reconstruction at the place where the woman and her daughter were murdered. Verma said that he had provided vital information to the police.

“We will produce the accused in the court and pray the court to take him on a remand for further investigation into the case,” he added.

The Raigarh police had picked up Toppo from his house at Brajarajnagar late in the night of February 14.

Raigarh SP Santosh Singh, in a press meet on January 13, had said that the accused MLA during interrogation had named his driver as an accomplice in the murder of the mother-daughter-duo.
