2017 Stampede Case: Criminal Case Against Shah Rukh Khan Quashed; Check Details

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court has quashed a criminal case filed against Shah Rukh Khan in 2017 over a stampede at Vadodara railway station during the promotion of his film ‘Raees’.

The stampede led to the death of one person, while many fell unconscious and several others were injured.

“The petitioner was promoting his movie on the railway station, after having obtained permission to do so from the authorities concerned. Neither could the acts of the petitioner be termed as being of extreme high degree of negligence or recklessness nor could the acts stated to be proximate or efficient cause for the alleged incident,” the high court said.

The Bench of Justice Nikhil S. Kariel observed that it would be a better option if Shah Rukh is asked to apologize rather than asking him to face the trial, LiveLaw.in reported.

A local court in Vadodara issued summons to Shah Rukh, asking him to be present, after Congress leader Jitendra Solanki had filed a complaint against the actor. Shah Rukh moved the high court against the summons and for quashing the complaint.

The court felt the petition had been filed by someone who has no direct connection with the incident in question.
