Bhubaneswar: An Associate Professor of History at Malabar Christian College in Kerala’s Calicut has made a special calendar for the year 2023 by compiling photos of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik with the Hockey World Cup 1975 trophy along with the winning Indian team. It is aptly titled ‘Heroes of 1975.’
With the country all set to host the World Cup Hockey in the state capital next month, the professor has also come out with a musical tribute to the heroes of 1975, the only time that India lifted the cup. “Magicians of Kulalumpur” has been tuned and sung by his former students, Suparna and Sai Giridhar.
Vasisht has been working as a lecturer for 26 years and has fed on his passion for dishing out songs, articles, brochures and calendars on sporting events. He was instrumental in setting up the country’s first library of cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar titled “Sachin’s Gallery”. The library has a collection of 60 books on the legend published in twelve languages including Odia.
His previous creative works include a poem on football that was published in the December 2001 issue of FIFA Magazine. His song on Wimbledon is now preserved in the All England Lawn Tennis Museum in London and then came his song on the Olympics that was broadcasted by China Radio International during the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The professor plans to watch the Hockey World Cup matches in Bhubaneswar this year.
