Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik unveiled the official logo of the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 at Kalinga Hockey Stadium here on Thursday.
The 15th edition of the marquee event will be organized by Hockey India and its official partner Odisha at Bhubaneswar and Rourkela from January 13 to 29, 2023.
This is the second consecutive time Odisha will be hosting the prestigious tournament, after having successfully conducting the event in 2018.
“It’s an honour and delight for me to unveil the logo of the FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup for the second consecutive time,” Naveen said after unveiling the logo.
“We are thrilled that there will be two venues this time — Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. The 2018 FIH Men’s World Cup gave us all memories that we still cherish to this day and the 2023 FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup will be even more exciting and unforgettable. Odisha looks forward to welcoming global hockey fans and top teams from across the world to participate in the prestigious tournament,” the Chief Minister stated.
Besides the Kalinga Stadium, matches will be played at the country’s largest hockey stadium, which is being constructed at Rourkela. The stadium will have a seating capacity of 20,000.
Among others present at the logo launch programme were Hockey India president Gyanendro Ningombam, Odisha Sports minister Tusharkanti Behera, former India captain and Odisha Hockey Promotion Council chairman Dilip Tirkey. International Hockey Federation president Narinder Batra, who recently faced a CBI investigation into alleged wrongdoing, was conspicuous by his absence.
The logo launch took place ahead of the FIH Hockey Pro League match between india and Germany.
