Rourkela: The 2024 Lok Sabha elections would be the last for BJP MP and former Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, who intends to make way for young leaders.
Jual, who is seeking reelection from Sundargarh Lok Sabha seat in Odisha for the sixth term, made the announcement in Rourkela on Sunday.
“It is for the seventh consecutive time that the BJP has nominated me from Sundargarh. This Lok Sabha polls will be my last. The youths should get a chance,” he told reporters after arriving at Rourkela railway station.
He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda for reposing faith in him again.
Jual is pitted again Hockey India president and BJD’s Dilip Tirkey, whom he had defeated in 2014 elections by a margin of 18,829 votes. If he repeats the feat this time, it would be his second hat-trick after his consecutive wins in 1998, 1999 and 2004.
The tribal leader was also a minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government at the Centre from 2014 to 2019.
