Capital times for the Odisha capital. Bhubaneswar may get to host the 2032 Olympics, if everything goes according to the Indian Olympic Association’s (IOA) plan.
India can bid for the 2032 Olympics if it can achieve a ‘double figure’ medal target at the Tokyo 2020 games.
“If we have to bid for the 2032 Olympics, the target should be 25 medals in 2024 and 35-40 by 2028. Otherwise, they won’t even allow you to bid. You have to make sure the performance is such,” The Hindu quoted IOA president Narinder Batra saying on Saturday.
On the choice of venues for the Olympics, the IOA chief said that a decision will be taken in 2025. “Mumbai and Delhi are likely choices. Then there is Bhubaneswar, which we are right now calling the sports capital of India,” he informed. “We are allowed three cities, so it can be anywhere. The only condition is that it has to have an international airport,” he added.
Batra further said India is also looking forward to host the 2026 Youth Olympic games, and the IOC Congress in 2021.
“We have also expressed our interest to host the 2030 Asian Games so that the infrastructure will be ready early and it will just be a two-year gap to the Olympics,” he added.
