Puri: The 21-day Chandan Yatra of sibling deities inside Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri began on Friday.
As per tradition, Chandan Yatra is held for total 42 days. ‘Chalanti Pratima’ of Lord Jagannath and Pancha Pandav participate in the water sports outside the temple for the first 21 days. It is organised in Narendra tank in the Pilgrim Town.
“The Chandan Yatra begins on third day of bright fortnight of Baisakh month in Odia calendar or the day of Akshay Tritiya and continues for 42 days till 14th day of bright fortnight of Jyestha month or day before Snana Purnima. As the outdoor Chandan Yatra came to an end on Thursday, the Lords have been taken inside the temple for indoor Chandan Yatra,” said a servitor of the temple.
He further said during the indoor Chandan Yatra, the Lords remain inside the temple. During this period, “Jala Krida” (water sports) ‘niti’ (ritual) is performed on four auspicious days of Jyestha Ekadasi (11th day of Jyestha month), Sabitri Amabasya, Sital Sasthi and Rukmini Haran Ekadasi.
