Chennai: Death can be caused by various cruel and painful circumstances. But what happened at a wedding in Tamil Nadu is hard to digest.
Grief and disbelief enveloped the joyous occasion at the marriage venue in Tiruvallur district as a 21-year-old man accidentally fell into a cauldron of boiling rasam.
The victim, identified as V Sathish, succumbed to his severe burn injuries at the hospital.
A final year BCA student studying at a private college in Korukkupet, Sathish was working part-time in a catering firm which had been employed by the wedding hosts.
Sathish, whose parents are both casual labourers, was serving food to guests when the tragedy took place. He was walking past the cooking area when he slipped and fell into the cauldron which contained boiling rasam prepared for the guests.
His co-workers rescued Sathish and took him to a primary health centre in Minjur. Since his injuries were severe, he was later referred to Kilpauk Medical College, where he succumbed to injuries.
According to police, Sathish died on Sunday without responding to treatment.
A case of unnatural death has been registered and an investigation is underway.
