Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police conducted a special enforcement drive across Kataka and Bhubaneswar on the night of August 26, resulting in the detection of 212 drunken-driving cases and the seizure of an equal number of vehicles in the twin cities.
The drive was carried out under the direction of Odisha DGP, to reinforce night safety, curb organised crime, clamp down on illicit narcotics and liquor, and enforce strict traffic control, with a heightened emphasis on women’s safety. A total of 336 Cadet Sub-Inspectors were deployed in field enforcement to gain practical experience in policing.
In Bhubaneswar alone, police registered 122 cases of driving under the influence, confiscating 49 four-wheelers, 65 two-wheelers, and eight three-wheelers, while collecting ₹79,500 in traffic fines under the Motor Vehicle and Odisha Urban Police Acts. Chandrasekharpur Police seized two sand-loaded Hywas, Mancheswar Police detected two Excise cases and two modified-silencer cases, and Khandagiri Police personnel arrested three antisocial elements found consuming liquor at secluded locations during foot patrols.
In Kataka, police registered 90 cases of drunken driving and seized 90 vehicles, including 21 four-wheelers and 69 two-wheelers. Two Excise cases led to the seizure of 35 litres of liquor, while two cases involving modified silencers were detected and four mobile phones were recovered.
Odisha Police stated that such focused enforcement and field-oriented exercises will continue to promote safer roads, prevent crime and strengthen public safety across the state.
