New York: In a tragic incident, at least 22 people were killed and numerous others sustained injuries after multiple shootings in Lewiston, Maine, in United States, on Wednesday night, reported NBC News citing a police source in the city.
City Councilor Robert McCarthy informed CNN that the shooting occurred at a bowling alley and at least one other location, a local restaurant and bar. While rescue services rushed in from across central Maine to tend to the wounded, two Lewiston hospitals mobilised all available staff to deal with the situation, he added.
“Please stay off the roads to allow emergency responders access to the hospitals,” said the police, in a statement on Facebook.
Meanwhile, police have identified Robert Card as the main suspect in the Maine mass shooting.
Two photos of the suspect, a bearded man in a long-sleeved shirt and jeans carrying what appeared to be a semi-automatic weapon inside the bowling alley, was later posted on Facebook. Card is 40 years old and should be “considered armed and dangerous,” according a Facebook post from the Lewiston Police Department.
A picture of a white SUV was also released as police sought help of public to identify the vehicle, which was later located in Lisbon, Maine. “We are encouraging all businesses to lock down and or close while we investigate. The suspect is still at large,” said the local police.
