Sambalpur: Twenty-two MBBS first-year students of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, in Odisha’s Sambalpur district have tested COVID-19 positive.
The students apparently developed symptoms of COVID-19 following the annual function UTKARASH-2021 from November 13 and 14 and were found infected after undergoing an antigen test at the medical facility on Monday.
The RT-PCR test of the students will be conducted on Tuesday.
The COVID-afflicted students are under isolation and their health condition is being constantly monitored by doctors of the hospital. Contact tracing of all 22 students is being done, VIMSAR sources said.
A few 3rd and 4th year students are suspected to have also contracted the virus. A meeting will be held to decide the next course of action, informed Superintendent Lal Mohan Nayak.
