Konark: Police on Monday arrested 22 people, including 15 women, from Redhua village under Gop police limits in Puri district for detaining 10 policemen.
According to reports, a team of policemen from Gop police station had gone to the village on August 6 to arrest a person in a theft case. As soon as the police arrived in the village in the night, the villagers detained all policemen including an ASI for six hours alleging that a false FIR has been lodged against the person.
Following information, a team of the IICs of Nimapara, Konark and Kakatpur, led by the Nimapara SDPO Pradip Kumar Dalei, arrived at the village the very next day with one platoon of force and rescued the detained cops.
Police later registered a case and arrested 22 villagers.
