Jajpur: A 22-year-old man allegedly died by suicide after suffering losses to the tune of lakhs of rupees in mobile games In Odisha’s Jajpur district.
The deceased has been identified as Srinivasa Nayak, employed as a contract worker with a private mining company in Sukinda chromites valley.
According to sources, the incident took place at Kadubani village under Kaliapani police limits. Srinivasa went to bed after having dinner with his family on Sunday night, and was found hanging from the ceiling the following morning.
The 22-year-old had allegedly taken loans from various self-help groups of his village through his mother to cover the losses incurred while playing online games. It is suspected that he took the extreme step amid pressure from moneylenders to repay the debts. “We are investigating the case to ascertain the circumstances leading to the suicide of the youth. We are also examining his bank records which may shed further light on the reasons behind his decision,” a police officer told PTI.
