Balangir: A few days after police busted a gang allegedly involved in illegal cough syrup trade in Odisha’s Balangir district, two more arrested in this connection on Friday.
On a tip-off that huge amount of cough syrup bottles was being illegally transported from Cuttack to Balangir, a team from Balangir Town police station conducted checking of vehicles at Bijakhaman on Balangir-Titlagarh road. During checking of a private bus coming from Cuttack, the team found the cough syrup bottles.
The police sources said total 2,240 cough syrup bottles were recovered from the bus while those were transported in 7 paper packets. The police have arrested three persons in this connection.
The arrested persons have been identified as Biswanath Mulia of Mangalabag in Cuttack, Maheswar Mohanty of Badachana in Jajpur and Laldhar Putel of Kalahandi. The police also seized 4 mobile phones and Rs 5,440 from their possession.
It may be noted that the police had busted a gang involved in illegal cough syrup trade and seized Eskuf Syrup bottles worth around Rs 40 lakh in Balangir on March 13. As many as 37 members of the gang, most of whom belonging to Bargarh, Cuttack and Balangir districts and Uttar Pradesh, were also arrested.
Besides syrup bottles, one country-made pistol, 17 mobile phones, one Mahindra XUV Vehicle, two Mahindra Pick UP, one Tata ACE Vehicle, two motorcycles and Rs 7,500 in cash, gold jewellery and other articles were seized from them.
