23 Detained For Assaulting Basudevpur IIC

Basudevpur: Ass many as 23 persons have been detained for allegedly assaulting the  inspector in-charge (IIC) of Basudevpur police station in Bhadrak district on Tuesday night.

The IIC, identified as Nabakishore Nayak, had sustained severe head injuries in the incident and was admitted to a local hospital.

A police team led by Nayak had gone to Lunga village in the district after receiving information that a minor girl was hit by a DJ vehicle engaged for procession of a deity. Following which, an altercation broke out between the cops and the villagers. The situation turned violent in no time as a group of villagers started attacking the police personnel with stones. They also ransacked the police vehicle.

When the situation went out of control, more police forces were sent to the spot to pacify the agitators and rescue the officials.

The detainees are being interrogated and the DJ vehicle that was involved in the accident has been seized for further inquiry, police sources informed.
