Bhadrak: As many as 23 families were rendered homeless as their houses were razed by lightning strike during northwesterly in two villages of Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Sunday.
As per reports, at least 36 rooms of these families in Kaligadi and Kasipur villages under Andala and Birasa panchayats of Basudevpur block in the district were burnt down in the fire triggered by lighting. Household properties worth lakhs of rupees have turned into ashes and several cows and goats burnt alive in the incident.
Susant Parida, a farmer of Kaligadi village, said while he was working in his farm field, northwesterly hit the village. Sandstorm accompanied by repeated lightning devastated the area. When Susant returned to the village after the storm, he found his house engulfed by fire.
“As the Fire services personnel did not arrive even after informed by us, the villagers helped me extinguish the fire. All my household properties have burnt down and the cows and goats in the cattle shed burnt alive,” he said.
