Bhubaneswar: Even as the IMD forecast that the conditions have become favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon, most parts of Odisha remained under the grip of heatwave with 24 places recording 40 degree Celsius on more on Thursday.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, maximum temperature crossed 43 degree Celsius in 7 places on the day.
Jharsuguda was the hottest in the state with 44.8 degree Celsius, followed by Hirakud 44.1. Sundargarh 44, Sambalpur 43.9, Sonepur 43.8, Rourkela and Baripada 43.2 and Talcher 43 degree Celsius.
The IMD has forecast that there will be no large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) during next 4 days and slight fall thereafter in many places of Odisha. It is likely to be above normal by 5-7 degree Celsius in a few places during the period.
It has advised the people to take precautionary measures while going outside from 11 am to 3 pm.
Heatwave and severe heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at a few places in the districts of Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Cuttack and Khurda till 8.30 am on Friday, it added.
The Met office also said conditions are becoming favourable for further advance of monsoon in some more parts of
south peninsular and eastern India and adjoining areas during June 18 to 21. The trough from east Bihar to northwest Bay of Bengal across Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal persists at 0.9 km above mean sea level.
