Angul: A 24-year-old youth has been arrested by the forest officials under the Wildlife Protection Act for allegedly pulling the tail of a tusker in Talcher range of Odisha’s Angul district.
The arrested has been identified as Dinesh Sahoo, a resident of of Kulad village in Talcher forest range.
According to sources, the elephant was chased by locals, including Sahoo, on Sunday when it was moving close to a forest area near Kulad. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Nodal) Susanta Nanda posted a video, in which Sahoo was seen disturbing it by pulling its tail, and sought information on the same. “Anyone providing information about the person teasing the elephant and location, will be suitably rewarded, while keeping it confidential.”
Sahoo was booked under section 9 of the Wildlife Protection Act and arrested on basis of the evidence. There is provision of punishment of three to seven year for such crimes under the Wildlife Protection Act.
