Bhubaneswar: A 24-year-old lab technician was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside a rented accommodation in Odisha capital on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Suryakant Sahoo, a native of Astaranga in Puri district. He had been working at a local private hospital and residing in rented accommodation in Laxmisagar.
According to sources, a syringe was found in Sahoo’s pocket, sparking suspicion that he may have died from a self-administered toxic substance. The injection has been seized and sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) for detailed chemical testing. Though preliminary findings and site conditions suggest a possible case of suicide, police are examining all potential angles to determine the exact cause of death.
Meanwhile, Sahoo’s body was shifted to Capital Hospital, where a postmortem was conducted in the presence of his family members, who rushed to the city after being informed by police. Statements of Sahoo’s neighbours, relatives, and close acquaintances are being recorded to reconstruct his recent routine, evaluate his behavioural patterns, and uncover potential triggers such as personal troubles or family disputes. No formal complaints or allegations have been lodged by the family so far.
Police emphasised that the exact cause of death and details about the injected substance will only be confirmed once the forensic and post-mortem reports are received.
