Berhampur: A total of 24,298 birds of 95 species have been spotted at four forest ranges in Odisha’s Berhampur.
The number of birds that have migrated to these forest ranges this year is double compared to the previous year. Out of the total, 1,592 are Little Egrate, 1260 Bar-Headed Goose, 835 Common Coot, 1287 Little Cormorant, 1089 Intermediate Egret, 872 Indian Pond Heron, 1122 Red-Crested Pochard, 999 Purple Moorhen, 996 Lesser Whistling Duck and 850 Black-Headed Gull Birds.
As many as 11,554 birds have been spotted in Berhampur forest range, 8,957 birds in Khallikote forest range, 1,897 in Digapahandi forest range and 1,890 birds have been spotted in Samantapalli forest range, informed the sources.
Notably, the Berhampur Forest Division launched the bird census on January 3. A total of 38 teams conducted the census in the four ranges of Berhampur-10, Khallikote-9, Digapahandi-13 and Samantapalli-6.
