Mumbai: Life in Mumbai was thrown into disarray by heavy rains which lashed the city on Saturday night and Sunday.

According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), as many as 25 people lost their lives and six were seriously injured in rain-related incidents in Maharashtra’s capital city.

Landslides triggered wall collapse in some parts of the city and nearby areas, while waterlogging in several areas brought the city to a grinding halt.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) changed its ‘Orange’ alert for Mumbai to ‘Red’, and forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places, and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places.

All but two deaths were caused by landslides in Mahul and Vikhroli, while one person died due to a house collapse and another due to short circuit.

Nine flights had to be diverted from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) as operations were suspended for five hours, ANI reported quoting airport authorities.
