25 Sick With Suspected Food Poisoning After Wedding Feast In Odisha’s Angul

Angul: More than 25 people fell ill after eating at a wedding feast at Tubey village in Odisha’s Angul district, sparking panic among residents of the area.

As per preliminary information, around 20 of the affected people have been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) at Angul, while several others are undergoing treatment at private hospitals.

Locals said the wedding feast was organised on Wednesday evening in the village under the jurisdiction of Jarapada police sta

tion in the district. A large number of relatives, friends and local residents had gathered to celebrate the occasion.

Traditional dishes were reportedly served as part of the community-style banquet. However, guests complained of diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach pain and fever a few hours after consuming food at the function. As their condition deteriorated, family members rushed them to nearby medical facilities for immediate treatment.

While suspected food poisoning was suspected to have caused the illness, the exact source will be confirmed only after laboratory analysis.

Doctors said most of the patients are stable and under close medical observation. A medical team from the DHH is scheduled to visit the wedding venue to collect samples of leftover food and drinking water. These samples will be sent for laboratory test to ascertain the cause of contamination, official sources said.
