Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police Recruitment Board (OPRB) has received applications from 26 transgenders for the post of sub-inspector (SI).
The Board had invited applications for recruitment of 477 SIs and for the first time, transgenders were made eligible to join Odisha Police.
More than 1,32,496 candidates have applied for the posts of which 34,964 are women and 97,506 men, sources said.
The date of commencement of online application was June 6 while the last date of submission of online application was July 15.
“The total number of candidates applied for the post may increase marginally after re-conciliation of payment of examination fees,” said an official.
Tamil Nadu is the other state that has recruits transgenders in police Sub-inspector rank.
Chhattisgarh Police too recruited transgenders as constables.
