2603 Odisha Villages Lack Mobile Connectivity; DBN Project To Ensure Network For All

Bhubaneswar: Despite the spread of digital technology, at least 2603 villages lack mobile connectivity in Odisha, the state Assembly was informed on Monday.

This information was shared by Electronics & IT Minister Mukesh Mahaling while answering a question by MLA Ramesh Chandra Behera in the House. There is no mobile connectivity in 2603 out of total 51167 villages in the state, the Minister informed the Houe.

He said around 4210 mobile towers have been proposed to be installed to provide mobile connectivity in all the villages of the state through Centre’s Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN) project with coordination of Odisha government, of which 2572 mobile towers are functional.

The remaining towers are expected to become functional by June 2025, ensuring universal mobile connectivity across the state, the Minister added.
