Bhubaneswar: The capital city registered a rise in unnatural deaths over the last two years. Till November end, 277 suicide cases were registered at different police stations under Bhubaneswar .
According to the data shared by Commissionerate of Police for the 11 months of 2021, the maximum of 68 cases were registered at Khandagiri police station followed by 25 cases at Bharatpur and 20 under the jurisdiction of Capital Police. The cases registered under other PS are as follows:
The suicide cases included deaths of 190 men/boys and 87 women/girls. The maximum cases relate to poisoning, hanging and drowning. While 119 had died of poisoning, 135 lost their lives by hanging and 23 by drowning.
The report further shows that investigation in 532 out of the total 1,445 unnatural death cases has been completed. While 1386 were registered in 2019 it rose to 1500 in 2020.
