Paradip: After Ganjam coast in Odisha, 28 trawlers carrying 248 fishermen from Andhra Pradesh have taken shelter at Paradip Port in Jagatsinghpur district as they failed to return due rough sea conditions caused by deep depression.
According to sources, the Paradip Port Authority permitted the fishermen and their trawlers to take shelter inside the port. They have been accommodated at the EQ-1 berth as a safety measure amid the prevailing weather conditions.
Earlier, as many as 27 fishing trawlers from Andhra Pradesh were stranded off Ganjam coast due to rough sea conditions. They subsequently took shelter at Aryapalli fishing jetty in Ganjam district.
Notably, signal number 3 has been in force at Paradip Port. As a precautionary measure, restrictions have been imposed on the entry of ships into the harbour.
Ships currently engaged in cargo loading operations have been instructed to complete the work immediately and move to a safe distance into the sea. The port authorities have also initiated the process of moving ships out of the port.
Officials said further steps would be taken based on the impact of the storm and rain and the information received from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
