Bhubaneswar: Another night trial of nuclear-capable Prithvi-II ballistic missile was successfully conducted from a defence facility off Odisha coast on Friday.
According to Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) sources,the short-range surface-to-surface missile was test-fired from the launching complex III of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in Balasore district at about 7.30 pm.
The missile, which is capable of attacking targets at a range of 350 km, was a part of the user trial by the Strategic Forces Command.
This was the second successful night trial of the indigenously-developed Prithvi-II missile in a month. Last time, the Indian Army had conducted the night trial on September 23.
The liquid-propelled Prithvi-II can carry 1 tonne warhead. The 9-metre tall missile is the first to have been developed by DRDO under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme.
