Balangir: A man was arrested on Monday for allegedly killing his wife and then setting the body on fire in a bid to destroy evidence in Khaprakhol area of Odisha’s Balangir district. His elder brother and uncle were also arrested for assisting him in the act
The prime accused was identified as Debaraj Sahu of Putulamahula village under the jurisdiction of Khaprakhole police station, while his two accomplices are his elder brother Tikelal and uncle Gunanidhi.
Sources said Debaraj had married Chulabati of Chingiritala village six years ago. The two had a quarrel over some family issues on June 16 and in a fit of rage Debaraj thrashed his wife mercilessly till she collapsed.
Realising that his wife was dead, Debaraj with the help of Tikelal and Gunanidhi put the body in a sack and carried it to a nearby forest where they poured petrol on the sack and set it on fire.
Subsequently, the woman’s father, unable to contact his daughter, asked Debaraj about her whereabouts. As Debaraj failed to give any satisfactory answer, he lodged a missing report at Khaprakhole police station.
During the investigation, the police came to know about the murder and arrested the three.
