Bhubaneswar: Police have arrested three persons in Kolkata for alleged murder of an elderly person from Bhubaneswar.
As per reports, the victim, identified as Subodh Sarkar, was staying in his own house in Bhubaneswar. He had sold his house and shifted to Belgharia in Kolkata where he was staying in a rented house three months back.
Some sweepers spotted a blood-stained red trolley bag on the banks of a canal in New Town on Saturday and informed the local police. After registering a case, the police started investigation to identify the body.
During checking at Midnapore toll gate, the police stopped a car and found blood stains in the vehicle’s boot. They detained its driver and a passenger, identified as Soumyakanti Jena who works as a relationship manager in a private bank at Nimta.
During questioning, Jena admitted to have murdered Sarkar and disposed his body in the trolley bag in the canal. He committed the crime to take the money which Sarkar had got by selling his house. The police did not reveal the identity of the third person arrested in connection with the murder.
Revealing the arrest to media persons on Sunday, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh said since the investigation into the case was still going on, they could not disclose further details now.
