3 Arrested For Running Prostitution Racket, 2 Women Rescued In Odisha’s Berhampur City

Berhampur: Police on Sunday arrested 3 persons including a woman for allegedly running a prostitution racket from a house in Berhampur of Odisha’s Ganjam district.

Based on credible information regarding flesh trade in the rented house of Rakesh Patra at Ralaba Road near the city, a team from Golanthara police station conducted a raid on the house and detained 3 persons.

The arrested persons are Padmanabha Sahu, Alok Kumar Guru and Sagarika Panda who was the mastermind of the racket. Sagarika had taken the house on rent and was running the brothel for her illegal gain by inducing women, said Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M.

Two victim girls, who were rescued by the police during the raid, were sent to a shelter home for their interim safety and security. During the search, the police seized 3 mobile phones, Rs 22,100 in cash, used and unused condoms from the house.

All the arrested persons have been forwarded to court, while Golanthara police have registered a case under the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act, 1956.
