3 Arrested On Extortion Charge In Odisha’s Cuttack

Cuttack: Police have arrested three anti-socials on charges of extortion in the city. They were identified as Raja alias Rajesh Pal and Vicky alias Bhabani Shankar Rout of Malisahi, Ranihaat and Bapi alias Srikant Behera of Gopal Sahi, Ranihaat.

Speaking to media, SK Sarifuddin, ACP Zone-II, Cuttack said following a tip-off that some anti-socials were threatening people and extorting money from them, a team of Mangalabag police station raided a place in Bajrakabati Road area late Friday night. The team arrested three of them while others managed to escape.

He said the anti-socials have nine criminal cases pending against them at Mangalabad and other police stations. The cases are related to extortion, planning to commit dacoity and attempt to murder.

The arrested persons were forwarded to court on Saturday and later, sent to jail as their bail pleas were rejected by the court.

It may be noted that the Commissionerate Police on Friday had announced to launch an anti-extortion task force headed by Additional Police Commissioner Lekha Lohani.
