Sundargarh: Tension ran high near Darlipali NTPC Power Plant under Bhasma police limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Friday after three bikers were crushed to death under the wheels of a truck late last night.
According to sources, a speeding truck carrying fly ash hit the motorcycle the trio was riding and they died on the spot. The truck driver fled the scene soon after the incident. The deceased have been identified as Ranjan Pradhan, Asish Bhoi, and Rupak Dhua, all residents of the area.
As the news of the deaths began to spread, irate locals blocked Sundargarh-Darlipali road near the mishap spot this morning, bringing vehicular movements to a standstill. They demanded compensation for the bereaved families and relaying of the road there.
On being informed, police reached the place and pacified them. An investigation is underway and efforts are on to trace the truck driver.
