Jharsuguda: Three truck drivers were charred to death as the vehicles burst into flames after a crash near Sadar Police Station on NH-49 in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district late on Wednesday.
According to sources, the accident took place around 1 am when a Belpahad-bound trailer, a hyva and another truck collided with each other. The vehicles are suspected to have caught fire owing to an electrical short circuit. One of trucks was reportedly laden with coal.
On being informed, Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and doused the flames. The drivers, however, failed to get out of the vehicles and were burnt alive. Reckless driving could have led to the accident, sources added.
Meanwhile, police have recovered the charred bodies and started an investigation. The damaged trucks were removed from the highway with the help of a crane this morning.
