Puri: A day before the world famous Rath Yatra, the three majestic chariots were taken from the construction yard and stationed in front of the Singhadwar of Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s pilgrim town of Puri on Monday.
The colourful chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra were pulled from the ‘rathakhala’ on ‘bada danda’, the grand road, and taken to Singhadwar, the Lions Gate, in the seaside pilgrim town this evening.
According to sources, the Agnyamala Bije Niti was performed following the divine permission. A group of daitapati servitors went in a procession and reached near the chariots at the rathakhala, the chariot yard where the three gigantic chariots were constructed.
They worshiped the three chariots and fastened the Agyanmala garland to the raths. The servitors performed the rituals on three chariots — Nandighosha of Lord Jagannath, Taladhwaja of Lord Balabhadra and Darpadalan of Devi Subhadra.
Following the ritual, the three chariots were pulled up to the Singhadwar of the 12th century shrine.
The chariots are now ready to be pulled by lakhs of devotees on the grand toad tomorrow as the sibling deities will embark upon their nine-day sojourn to the Gundicha Temple.
