Bhubaneswar: Hot weather and heat wave conditions are likely over some districts of Odisha till 8.30 am on April 16, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday.
“Due to northwesterly/westerly dry air and high solar insolation, the maximum temperature (Day Temperature) is very likely to rise further by 3 to 4°C in Interior Odisha during the next 4 days and at many places in other districts of the state. Consequently, day temperature is likely to cross 40°C and remain 3 to 5°C above normal at a few places during next 4 to 5 days,” the IMD said in a special bulletin.
People have been advised to take precautionary measure while going outside during day time between 11 am and 2 pm.
Notably, the mercury had soared to 39 degree Celsius in Odisha capital by 11 this morning. Six other places recorded 35 degree Celsius or more- Sambalpur (38), Jharsuguda (37.6), Chandbali (36.8), Hirakud (36.2) and Keonjhar (35.4) before noon.
The IMD had earlier forecast a significantly higher number of heatwave days in Odisha. The day temperature in twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack is likely to hover around 40 degree Celsius during the next few days.
